What does the test include?

Liver function is a useful indicator of your long-term health. Poor liver function can have long term implications such as lowering immunity, increasing the inflammation in the body, which in turn increases the risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, and kidney disease. There are many lifestyle factors that can impact liver health such as alcohol consumption, smoking, being over weight, not exercising and eating an unhealthy diet.

Health markers

The kidney is an important organ which helps to filter and remove waste products from the blood, prevent disease, and regulate hormone and energy levels. Therefore, it is very important to check whether this organ is functioning properly as kidney disease or damage can have serious long-term health implications.

Health markers

Cholesterol is a fat-like substance that can be found in every cell of the body and is associated with heart health. Good cholesterol (High-Density Lipoprotein) helps to remove excess bad cholesterol (Low-Density Lipoprotein) from the body. Bad cholesterol may build up in the arteries causing them to become hard and narrow and increasing the risk of experiencing a heart attack or a stroke.

Health markers

Chronic inflammation can damage healthy cells, tissues and organs. It is also associated with long-term health issues such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, arthritis, and bowel diseases like Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

Health markers

This test can screen for deficiencies in active b12, and ferritin (an indication of how much iron your body stores). Vitamin and iron deficiencies have a significant impact on the immune system and the body’s ability to fight infection.
Untreated vitamin and iron deficiencies can also increase the risk of developing heart disease, liver disease, cancer, intestinal problems and rheumatoid arthritis.

Magnesium is an important mineral that supports muscle and nerve function and energy production. Chronically low magnesium levels can increase the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and osteoporosis.

The HbA1c test is the most common test used to assess the risk of pre-diabetes and monitor Type 2 diabetes to see how well treatment plans are working. It provides a snapshot of blood glucose levels over the past two to three months. Undiagnosed/uncontrolled diabetes can have serious long-term health impacts.

Health markers

Elevated creatine kinase levels may indicate skeletal muscle, heart or brain damage. High creatine kinase levels can also be a sign of muscle disease such as muscular dystrophy or rhabdomyolysis.

The body needs a sufficient level of calcium to keep your bones healthy and vitamin D to help your body absorb calcium. Poor bone health can cause conditions such as rickets and osteoporosis and increase risk of breaking a bone from a fall later in life.

Health markers

This test checks cortisol, testosterone, and thyroid hormone levels as hormonal imbalance can increase risk of developing a range of long term health issues.

Elevated levels of Cortisol, known as the stress hormone, over long periods of time can lead to a chronic stress response in the body. This can disrupt bodily functioning and increase the risk of experiencing health problems such as anxiety, heart disease, diabetes, and obesity.

Lower than usual testosterone levels can cause long term health issues for men such as infertility and erectile dysfunction. Abnormally high testosterone levels can also lead to fertility issues alongside increased risk of heart attack, enlarged prostate and liver disease. In women, high testosterone can be a sign of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

It is important to check that the thyroid is functioning properly, as the thyroid hormone system regulates everything from energy levels and sleeping patterns, to muscle strength and weight. Hypothyroidism (an under active thyroid) can lead to an increased risk of heart disease, pregnancy problems in women and the rare life threatening condition myxoedema coma. Hyperthyroidism (an over active thyroid) can lead to heart problems, eye problems and brittle bones.

Health markers

A complete blood count is used to measure different parts and features of your blood including white blood cells, red blood cells and haemoglobin. A complete blood count can help in the diagnoses of a broad range of conditions, from anaemia and infection to cancer.
